Visa Surgeries in the UK

I obtained my visa last week at a visa surgery which Indian High Commission runs in several UK cities not served by a consulate. For example, the surgery in Glasgow takes place every month in an Indian community centre. The whole experience was painless with my application processed in the morning and the visa issued on return at 4pm.

I overheard some people discussing how the surgeries are assisted by local businessmen who grasped that the best way to oil the wheels was to volunteer and help out.

As far as Indian referees are concerned, I left this section blank and had no problems.

The Indian High Commission UK website has lists of other cities which have surgeries. Hope this helps.

A surgery is a term used in Britain to describe the situation where a person or a group of people e.g. Indian officials, will hold an open session on a specific date and offer their services to the public.
