Visa Situation what do I do?
Visa Situation what do I do?
ok I have a visa situation
I am from US and I am here on a 6 month visa
which will expire next month
I dont have nearly as much money as other travelers typically have
and after finding out the Indian embassy in nepal does not entertain back to back tourist visas I am confronted with some obsticals of head ache.
So is it easy to find a cheap place to live in nepal?
is it harder to live at around rs 100 a day in nepal than india
can I get a nepal visa for 6 months then come back to india in 6 months?
Locations in Thailand and Sri lanka do entertain back to back visas
what is the minimal estimated cost of these trips?
Can I get married and get a PiO card within one month?
I hear there may be alot of red tape and headaches that come with it? and are there hidden costs?
Tnx _Gopal

Highly unlikely, especially if you get married under an act which requires thirty days notice of the wedding...Once you are already married and once you have applied for PIO status, you MAY be able to have your visa extended, but I think you have to wait at least a year before you can apply for a PIO card.

Yes, you end up with a wife for a start. Apparently they can cost quite a bit to run.

Not to mention other burdens. But, my understanding is that the back to back limitation for Indian visas in Nepal is for the 3rd such and then its just for a 3 month visa (no warranties express or implied). Anyway the hash is cheaper..

I'm once again surprised that a US citizen who plans a long stay in India (or even just goes there for an unknown period of time) does not have a 10 yr. visa! Our 10 yr. visa is the envy of India-travelers worldwide!
I hope you are joking about getting married to get a different Visa! Unless of course, you have been engaged to an Indian national & failed to mention that. In which case, why have you waited until now to deal with this visa problem
Too late for all that since you are now subject to the travails of getting a visa outside the US.
Recent posters with the same problem went to Sri Lanka, but
apparently need to stay there for a couple of weeks. Here is a recent link about it. If you do a search (above right) you will find many links about this topic.
Applying for another Indian tourist visa in Colombo, Sri Lanka
Despite your saying you don't have as much money as other travelers, it is still your responsibility to make sure you have enough money to deal with your visa problem...or leave India. The authorities don't care about the reasons people visiting their country have for not having the right visa!

Do you have a US passport? Why do you only have a 6 month visa rather than a 5 year or 10 year?

Do you mean 1000 rupees per day?? You can't get a Nepal visa for 6 months. They only allow foreigners to be in the country 5 months out of 12, I believe, on a tourist visa. If you can't get an Indian tourist visa in Nepal, how does that situation change in 6 months rather than being there a year?

There are lots of airline sites with different prices. Hotel room will also be an added cost. Thailand is about $500 round trip, plus lodging. Sri Lanka is a bit less but less stable. Thailand also only allows 30 day visa on arrival for American passport holders & others, but they changed some rules recently so best to check on that. And then there is the question of whether you can get an Indian visa there.perhaps your best bet is to just go home, get a job, and save some money. Because unless you have some income of some sort, no matter how you get back into India, how the heck to you intend to stay long term??

Well, you are obviously the kind of guy any woman would want to marry!
Responsible, making a good income, legal, wanting to get married in order to be a good husband who wants to take care of his wife and family rather than being supported by them?
What's not to love?

you dont know everything about meyou are over speculating
you dont know my situation
I want to live in India I ask for solutions on how I can stay and now you see red because you think I am a potential bad husband that should just kill himself because he is not fit for society?

Reminds me of the old lawyer's rule, never ask a question in court which you don't know the answer to..

The 'getting married' is not going to be your solution for now - there is at least a 12 months wait, even up to 2 years, once you are married before you will be able to get a PIO card.
Camelgirl has referred you to a good link for one option - the other is to go to Nepal. You cannot live decently on 100 rupees per day however, if you are paying for accommodation as well. There is very little difference in living expenses in Nepal to India - much the same either place.
Mod Note: You will notice I have also moved your thread into Visa and Passport Questions where it is more appropriate.

Please Note
There was a parallel thread running with this started by the same person, and the comments on it should really be read in conjunction with this thread. The parallel thread is now closed, so no more will be added to it, so its a one-off read. You can find it by clicking on If I get married

Yeah I liked the comments on the other thread!!!
Especialy this from J5
"There it is again, judging by western values. If you lived here you would realise that in Indian terms this does not even come close to qualifying as "exploitation"!
India is a harsh place, especially for the rural poor. India is most certainly NOT "Shining" for them. "
yeah just today I asked my friend what is the typical marriage age is in Vrindaban and I was thinking he was going to say 15 but he said 18
But he continues on and tells me that where his family is from:
all the young boys of 13 years age get married thinking how great it will be that they can get married and have sex but they dont have any money for food for themselves, their wive, and their children
He said he could have ten wives from his hometown but he doesn't even have enough money for himself (as he relies on mine and his family for food and pocket money)
