London, IIRC, asks for two photos.

I suspect that, slowly, they will get digitised and require less paper.

Anyway, better to take two and to have one to take home than to take one and find they require two!

Thanx to all. For what it is worth, in Bangkok they ask for 2 photos on the form (which is apparently downloadable), but only want one, the other was uncermoniously shoved back over the counter. The other thing that suprised me was that they did not keep my passport (a first for me) but wanted a photocopy of the id page. When I went back to collect I had to wait another 4 hrs while the visa went into the passport, what a bore! The beer in that area is really expensive!!and it is a long way from anything interesting. Seems it is different all over...Anyway arriving in CC (as is described on my India airlines ticket) tomorrow. By the way shop around for your ticket if you are flying from BK. Prices vary amazingly Not sure this is the right thread to elaborate...

one more question to add!

Thank you greatly for all of this information that hadn't been able to find!
I am a Canadian student who is currently awaiting my tourist visa in the mail. I know there is a six month limit on this visa, and this is strict policy. If I want to stay longer with a trip to, say Nepal around month 4, can I apply for a new tourist visa for India while I am visiting Nepal which will give me an additional 6 months in India from that point rather than from initial entrance date??

Welcome to IM

Lot of information on the visa run here on the site, if you browse/search around. Lots of people do it.

People are not reporting problems, but one can never guarantee anything like this

My wife has an X visa valid for 6 months. We have applied for an extension of the visa, which has been accepted and the FRRO gave us a document stating that visa extension has been applied for and she can continue to stay in India even after expiry of the visa.

Would like to know how long it takes to officially get the visa extension i.e. get it stamped on the visa. Asked the FRRO people, but they gave vague replies.

Thanks

Smile Hello everyone

This is a great forum...thank God we found it as we are travelling to India late next month.

Just wanted to warn that when we were at the Consulate in London this week many Pakistani born British nationals were being turned away...even though they had all the relevant paperwork...and told to get letters from respective employers/schools (for their chldren).

It'd be nice to know what kind of visa they were applying for, and what kind of letter was being asked for.

Just a standard single entry visitor visa.Trip is for 18 days..the usual Delhi/Agra/Jaipur/Jodhpur...with a short stop in Mumbai. No going to rstricted areas etc.

The letters should be from employers confirming employment...and letters from children's schools stating they study there.
There's nothing on the website either...so a wasted journey really.

Find it hard to understand your this week many Pakistani born British nationals report (along with specific visa details)--- unless you spoke to them all.

On the other hand, if this was your own experience then please say so, as that is then a very valid first-hand report.

We do know that, at times, they make life hard for people of various backgrounds, eg Pakistani or SriLankan --- or issue much shorter-term visas. It's good to have up-to-date info on this.

Hey Nick
Yes,it was a personal experience, together with a friend too. There were several others in a queue with us,all Pakistani born British nationals....all with the necessary documents..
I would hate to think we and our friends were singled out,but that was not the case.
We will try again next week and see what happens. Will report back.

Hi all- Very informative string.
I am a US citizen new to the whole Visa process (my India 10-year tourist visa being my first visa, ever).
If I am planning on staying for at least 1 year, I obviously need to leave the country before 6 month time limit expires. Do I need then to go to the consulate again (and get some other stamp/ paperwork/ visa) before re-entry? Or do I just need to be able to show a stamp in my passport that I did leave? Is there an accepted duration that one must be out of the country- or could you literally get off a plane, get a stamp, and get right back on the plane to return?
Thanks in advance!

SFO2BAL, this thread is for Information and updates, not for questions. Please start a new thread if you wish to ask your own question.

But... Your 10-year multiple-entry visa is just that. You do not need any further paperwork until it expires.

When you leave your passport will be stamped. When you return, it will be obvious that you have just arrived on an international flight.
