Visa renewal in Sri Lanka
Last year it was possible to get a new visa for India at the High Commission in Colombo in 5 hours. Now, I have just found out first-handedly, they have changed it to a minimum of 5 days!
So beware if you think Sri Lanka is a cheap option for visa renewal. It's raining cats and dogs here: so no refuge to be sought in Unawatune. Just have to sit it out in Colombo and fly back as soon as I get it. Just so you know... |

% working days is the normal period. I wonder if they were doing free rush jobs last year. It would be interesting to know if they might speed it up like the Chinese do for an extra fee..

Nope no rush job last year. Drop off in the morning between 9 and 12 pickup at 4:30.
But last year it depended on nationality. Russians had to wait longer (I guess it took them longer to get clearance from Moscow). I have the feeling they standardized the process and said well we tell everybody 5 days even though some nationalities will get their visas cleared earlier. In fact, you get a telephone number to call to check whether your visa has cleared earlier or perhaps will take more time (I just heard of someone who had to wait 10 days!). So I am just going to call every day and check. Thank God I have a ticket which I can change for free, any amount of times, as long as I do it 24 hours before departure. The status for the philippines I wouldn't know about. However the Indian High Commision website in Colombo has e-mail addresses and phone numbers you could consult: http://www.hcicolombo.org/ |
