Visa question

I realize that I should have had this taken care of but <insert excuse> Bottom line, my old passport was both expired and lost in a house fire so I'm almost at square one with a two week expedited time at best

I have to get a new passport of sorts, going today, but now I'm concerned about the time frame as I have to have the passport before the visa. I'm trying to get out Sept 1st

Am I getting my arse in a time bind or am I cool. I'm guessing two weeks for the passport to be in my possesion

Quit worrying and just send in your passport stuff. I think 2 weeks is correct. There are visa-expediting agents (completely legal) in the US that will rush your papers through for you at the Washington Indian Embassy (assuming yours has to go through DC). You just FedEx them your new passport with a money order, a copy of your plane ticket, and any other papers (they will tell you), and they get it done in a few days.

Please note that you must FedEx it (or other private courier); to send a passport through US Mail is illegal. (not to mention foolhardy!)

I used some agency in Silver Springs, Md. Much easier than travelling to DC myself...and it felt better than sending it in "cold" with no contact there. Otherwise it might get lost in the sauce....

You should have no problem getting it all before end of August. I got mine just days before I left the country. (not one for planning ahead)

Illegal!?!?!

I've always sent mine via US Postal Service registered mail. I guess that makes makes me a rebel.
