A lot of countries will not let you enter , or issue a visa unless you have a minimum of 6 months to run on your passport ,so the best thing to do is check further and probably apply for a new passport ...Have fun

I think, if you check out the requirements on their web site, that they include a minimum six months remaining passport validity.
December... You've got plenty of time to renew those passports, and you'll get the unexpired few months added to your new ones, so you're not loosing anything. Edit... I'm answering the Wrong Question. Just ignore. ![]()

Well, you can book your flight now and then get your visa shortly before you leave -- unless you are afraid that you will be denied a visa.
The visa process takes maybe a week if you do it by post, faster if you wait online to drop off your application. |

I think the OP is worried about 3 months left on their Visa and not their Passport.
Having three months Visa will not cause you any problems at all. I have not heard of anyone being refused entry at Indian Airport because they only have few months Visa.

...but you have to get the visa in the first place.

His problem is not with the passport, but with the visa that he thinks he might be getting too early if he gets it in July already, for a trip in December. The Chennai-heat seems to beat you over your head, Nick-H, no more thinking possible (head-wiggle).

I think he means Visa not passport and you can travel up to the limit on the visa as long as you are returning before it expires. Why dont you get them a bit later? Last edited by Ali-Monbeam : Apr 28th, 2008 at 23:30. Reason: Forgot something |

![]() Yep, I'm completely off on a tangent here. As they used to say in school, come exam time: read the question, it doesn't matter how good your answer is if you're answering the wrong question! So it's a Woops, Sorry! from me --- and I haven't heard of anyone having that problem with their visa. Many tourists only come here for a couple of weeks. PS... kind of you to attribute it to the heat ![]() |

After reading this twice I sympathize with Nick as we both put sense in it that was undue surmising that it was the passport that was the issue. Of course there is no problem with the visa. The OP must have misread something somewhere that had to do with passports..

... To sum up then:
- Have a passport that's valid at least for six months after your date of entry into India (you won't get the visa without it I don't think). - Your tourist visa to India is valid from date of issue, not from date of entry. So most people opt to get them shortly before their trip. You obviously don't want to leave this to the very last minute in case something screws up; allow for some processing time. And it obviously doesn't matter if your trip falls within the visa's term of validity. - Finally, just call your Indian embassy about it, they'll have all the details. Problems with visas as long as you stay within its terms of validity I've never heard of no, why would there be. That's when they're valid.

---It's six months validity from the Visa issue date, not the entry date. for passport validity.
