Visa in under 10 days?

Hi I have to go to India in a week. This trip came up all of the sudden but I have just realized that it takes a minimum of 10 days to get a tourist visa. You can not inquire about your visa until a minimum of 10 working days has passed.

I am freaking out a little since I need to go to india before the 10 days will expire. Just wondering if anyone has any advice. Can I ask for a rush visa process or something?

Do visas usually take the full 10 days?

Thanks

Consulates have their own working policies; if you are applying at a Consulate in your own country, then 1-2 days service is normal. If you are applying with the passport of a 3rd country, expect it to take longer as a check back to your home country is generally required. It is often possible to 'expedite' service at a fixed price. Check the web-site of the country from which you will be applying from.

I was under the impression that you could get same day visa's by visiting the embassy/consulate?

My friend got her's today, rocked up at opening time and had it by 10am!

Hoshii2000 - I notice you're in NZ, are you a kiwi or just out there on holiday? I'm a kiwi (albeit with a British passport, But I still count!)

You get a visa to India on the same day only if you are applying for a visa from your home country

Right, good point. I'm gonna try to wing it on my British passport... In the eyes of the British government I'm home... The fact that I'll always be a Kiwi will only be known to me! Oh, and you guys who are reading this!

That hasn't been my experience. I have a British passport and have twice applied for a visa at the Indian consulate in San Francisco. Both times I got my visa the same day. I did go to the consulate in person though, I don't know if that makes a difference.

Are you resident in the US?
You get it quick when you apply in a country where you are resident.

The fact that you applied on two separate occasions for a visa to India from SF suggests that you are a long term resident of the US even though you have a british passport and as such you would come under the same category as a person living in California with a US passport. If you were to go for a short trip to Singapore, Australia, Thailand or any country where you are normally not resident and apply for a tourist visa to India then you will have to wait 5 days to get a visa.

Yup, I live in the US, I have a green card and they want a copy of the green card with my Indian visa application. So that's the key, I thought it might just be differences between different embassies. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm starting to worry about getting my visa on the same day... I'm a dual nationality Kiwi living in the UK with a British passport, going to apply for my visa in London next Friday, and leave Monday... The bit on the app that asks about other passports etc... If I don't fill it out and they discover that I do have another passport... Will it mess up my chances of getting it? Or if I do will it take ages to get my visa sorted??

Ho hum, which to do?? Any experiences on this one?

Hoshii2000 - Off topic stuff - Just wanted to ask about your time in NZ. Maybe PM's is the way to go... Drop me a line about what you were up to out there... Where did you go, where did you stay?? I'm a bit home sick and any news of the old country is great!

cheers

Leave it blank to avoid complications.
