I can believe it. We have the same problem. We first want to go to Nepal and after to India. We have alredy bougth the plane tickets and in this moment maybe we canīt go to India nor to Nepal because the transit visa its imposible to get it aswell; and we fly first to Delhi and the next day to Kathmandu.

Namaste from Benares

Namaste,

When you go to Nepal, you can use your indian rupees in hundred rupees note. They don' t accept 500 note. So you don' t need to change to Nepali rupees if you come from India. In Sonauli they always ask 30 dollars for the nepali visa, they don' t accept euros or any kind of rupees. Take well in advance your 30 dollars, or else you can buy them in the border as well.

For the Spanish members and Latin members, I would like you to follow me in this link, hope you like it
www.estarguapa.com, forum of travels, the one started by username canija about india, you can search for me as Mother Ganges,

I hope you like it,
It' s a Spanish forum where I usually write, and I explain how it is living in Benares, the day to day life for a western like me (I am from Barcelona Spain but married to hindu husband and living in Benares, where we have a silk shop).
I will try to do the same here, in indiamike, but of course Spanish is my native language and I can express myself totally at easy in it.
See you in this forum, or here, then
Namaste,

Eva

I wanted to vent my frustration about how difficult it is to contact the Indian embassy in Madrid or the consulate in Barcelona, so I thought I'd resurrect this old thread.

I'm trying to get a tourist visa for India. As of April 2006, the embassy's website is down and has been for several weeks. I have tried five different telephone numbers I've found on other sites, but none of them work. There is simply no way to contact the embassy or the consulate by phone. I've been trying for a week now, so it looks like I will have to go to the consulate in person. Their opening times are from 3:30 to 5:30 pm

Is this normal in other countries? I know they must have a lot of work to do with what summer coming and all, but this just looks like sheer incompetence on their part. How can an embassy website be down for so long, for a start?

Anyway. I leave in late July, three months from now. There's enough time. Right?

Thumbs up

The oppening time in the consulate is in the morning not in the afternoon, sometimes you can also arrange things in the afternoon but is not very sure.

The phone numbers I have got are: 91 131 51 30 - 1 - 2 - 3
Fax: 91 345 11 12 - 91 345 19 00
E-mail: cons.madrid@mea.gov.in
Home page: http://www.embajadaindia.com

Unfortunatelly can't do any query on your behalf because I don't live in Madrid.

All the luck

Jorge

Yep, the embassy in Madrid opens in the morning - I was referring to the consulate in Barcelona (where I live), which opens in the afternoon. Sorry if my message didn't make it too clear
