Question Visa in Chiang Mai

My visa expires early Aug and I'm going to have a look at Chiang Mai. Has anyone obtained their visa at the Consulate there? I understand it takes 5 days for non-residents as they run the usual checks.

I didn't think there was a consulate in Chiang Mai.

There is a consulate in Chiang-Mai. It usually takes 5 days to get the visa.

Northern Provinces come under the Consulate in Chiang Mai. The rest of Thailand under Bangkok.

I only find the Bangkok one in a jiffy but you could ask them about it.

They won't answer you as any visa is issued at their discretion. They needn't give reasons for refusal either. I'm going to London in September but I'm not putting that date on the form as departure from India date. They might then only give me 3 months.
Sorry, forgot to mention that I heard of 2 people getting only 3 months in May, but i don't know them or the details.

Hm. Thailand's just gotten much harder on its back-to-back rules right (not sure, but it's what the grapevine seems to say)? Maybe it's spilling over.

btw Surely they should provide you with the general procedure outlines at least? Rhetorical question, never mind. Visa provided or refused at discretion is universal btw, nothing to do with India as such. Doesn't mean they shouldn't help you with the basics as the client that you are. If they will is always a different matter of course. Bureaucrats, I'm sure you know all about them.

Went to the Consulate yesterday. The good news is that there's no waiting. I went straight to the desk where a pleasant young Thai lady explained (bad news) that the Consulate is only authorised to issue 3 month Tourist visas. I didn't enquire about other visas. She said I should go to Bangkok if I wanted a 6 month.

Talking

Picked it up today. One other point, it's a Single Entry. Doesn't affect me as I'm going to London in Sept. Just annoying that I have to waste loot on this run. I'm enjoying the food here though. I can't stop eating. Hope they don't weigh passengers on the return flights.

Thai food... I love it. Is it better than Nepalese food? Am still to decide where to eat when I need to leave India for a while (90-day limit)... Now I'm hungry.

Hi goangoangone

Good news regarding your visa, bit confused Where did you end up getting your visa? Did you go to Bangkok and what did you get a 3 month or 6 month? Off for my visa 31st August, going to try Birmingham, but will need to get new one in either Thailand or Sri Lanka after the 180 days, hoping to get a 1 year visa from Birmingham and then all I will have to do after 180 days is cross the border rather than apply for new one, fingers crossed.

Thanks

Chiang Mai consulate said they are only authorised to issue 3 month single entry. Go to Bangkok or Sri Lanka for 6 month multiple. It's cheaper to fly SriLankan from Goa to Colombo. I stayed 1 night 4 star hotel, just outside Colombo, courtesy of SriLankan en route to Bangkok. Not a bad place at all. If they get any stricter on visas, I'll have to consider moving here.

Just to add, the Consulate in Chiang Mai is resposible for the Northern Provinces and Bangkok Embassy for the rest of Thailand.
