Visa frustration

Hi,
Yesterday, the Mrs caught the train to Bradford to get our visas.
After waiting six hours in the queue, she was told they were closing and wouldn't accept any more applications, so she had to come home. That's a ten hour day wasted. Understandably, she wasn't happy!
I'm led to believe that posting your visa application is a bit risky, in that they may not return it in time and they might "lose" your application. I thinkwe'll have to go to Leeds in a couple of weeks, getting there before they open etc...
Anyone else here in the UK had problems with postal visa applications ?

Sorry to hear your Mrs had a wasted day. For my last three trips I have used the postal route and been amazed at the speed at which I got my passport back. The last one was posted on a saturday and was sitting on the mat waiting for me on Tuesday!!!!!
Maybe i'm just lucky ?

.............. actually thinking about it I didn't know you could get a visa in Bradford. I only thought London & Birmingham issued them. Done it in person a couple of times at Birmingham in one day. Drop it off before 11am (?) and pick up after 2pm. Again it all went toooooo well !!!!!!!

Birmingham

Noticed you lived in South Yorks - would Birmingham be ok?
We go every year to Birmingham office, getting there at 9 am to be reasonably near to the front of the que. Give it in then go for a leisurely breakfast round the corner and go back at lunch time to pick it up.
There is lots of parking space very near to the Embassy - it is in the Jewellry Quarter in Brum - you can find a map on the net.
Did you go to one of the day clinics in Bradford? A friend of ours had the same experience of one in Nottingham.
Before you could get the visa on the same day we used to go and leave the application in the office with a registered envelope for its return we never had a problem.

We live in Stockport & decided to go down to Birmingham to get our visas processed. We travel on 25th November and although there's a visa surgery being held in Manchester before then (6th November, I think) we were worried that something would go wrong, as appears to have been the case for your wife, Gallifreyan. We had the forms filled out & were processed very quickly, though we did have to queue for ages. Some people seemed to be filling the forms in at the counter!! We collected the visas that afternoon, so basically it took up the whole day. Might be worth going to Brum if time's running out.

Good luck whatever you decide

You have to get there early: they stop issuing queue tickets at 12.00 midday:-(

And don't be lulled into a sense of false security by the fact that you get the form handed in quickly!
If the books says it'll take at least two hours Then It Will Take At Least Two Hours

Got to the indian embassy in london at 7:45am , queued until 8:30 where we were handed a ticket stating we were number 18 & 19 (last year we were 168 & 169).
Then in we went handed it all over and walked out of there 09:10 with both passports done.
Quick , efficent and done. Well worth getting there early as at 8:30 the queue was massive!!!!!

It is obviously a serious breach of procedure that it took you less than two hours.

I know someone who works there: I'll mention it to him. Heads will roll

LOL. The last time it happened is when I got my Income Tax Number. I went to the counter, gave my name and some other details, he gave me my IT tax id card in 2 minutes. I was dumbstruck!

Then I realised, with this, they'll milk me to the death with taxes, so the efficiency. Though it was supposed to reach my postal address 2 years ago on its own. Even then, the thought that I didn't have to beg, run from pillar to post and the counter was opened promptly at 10 on a monday morning....

These were the few times when I came close to believing God exists....if he does exist, he's one real cool dude; no response to any prayers to winning the lottery but my tax card, now that's a service, the world is prompt at!

Death & taxes....Napolean was sooooo right!

Wandering_Kat:

It looks as if the London High Commision has become a Rogue Office!

Maybe my friend is even part of this, so I'll have to take it to a higher authority in India
