Hello, IM-world!
Does anyone know what the cheapest way to visit Sri Lanka is from India (is there a ferry? or puddle-jumpers?) and also, for non-schedule A countries (in this case Mexico), is there a Sri Lankan consulate anywhere in India to get a visa issued? Extensive Google-ing has turned up nothing..... A friend has invited us to visit her in Sri Lanka three weeks after we land in India... maybe too much hassle but worth the investigation... Thanks! ![]() |

My favorite topic! There used to be ferries, a generation ago, but civil war intervened, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated, the LTTE inspired Al Qaeda, etc. Now you have to fly.

There's been "talk" for years about bringing back the ferry - but it aint happened yet. There are relatively cheapish flights to and from Sri Lanka to Bangalore, at least......shop around for the best flight prices. Visa's are issued at arrival in Sri Lanka, I believ, if memory serves me right it's a 30 day visa.

Thanks everybody..... I can get a visa on arrival... but my husband isn't on the short list of visa-on-arrival countries and has to get one in advance. So far I can't find any consulates for Sri Lanka in India- but there has to be one....
We'll get to India in mid-January and are hoping to meet our friend in early February in Colombo- but if we have to mail his passport to the Sri Lankan Consulate in Washington DC that close to our departure for Delhi... no way, I won't chance it. Visas are such a headache..... ![]() |
