There is no way you can extend your visa unless you show that you are not getting a ticket to fly out of the country and that too only in very rare cases would you be allowed an extension which is valid only for 15 days. So it is not much help in your case where you want to stay for atleast one month. I think you can get it done in Delhi and Mumbai from the Foreigner's Registration Bureau in these cities for free but you have to show them that you do not have a confirmed flight out of India by the time your visa expires. It is quite a hassle to get it done and you will simply be wasting most of your days here getting it done if at all possible so not really worth trying to do it here. Sorry about that but that is the way India works.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Think about it--an Indian national on a tourist visa would like to spend another month in Germany, enjoying the sights. Visa expires soon. Would it be easily extended by the German government?

Probably the best way to stay in India!

But even then, you are looking at days and weeks (hopefully not months.... ) of form-filling and consideration of your application, and that's without taking the actual marriage into consideration.

Please do not assume that any country will make its immigration laws flexible to suit you. It won't. Especially not India

... not having a flight ticket is the only valid reason to get 15 days more? thats not at all indienlike. i just have more time and money to spend, shouldnt that be reason enough to let me stay any longer?? i heard in pune or delhi its possible to go to the finanzinst. and show them that i am useing money from a bankaccount and that i ve not been workin here so they ll exted the visa for two weeks. anybody ever heard of that? ... in addition: would i fly from madras to srilanka ? thx for the help

maybe aadil meant not able to get a flight ticket to leave before you're visa expires?

... Bureau of Immigration, India website (my bold).

But be prepared for beurocrasy, form filling, interviews, investigations.... "Hey, Guys, I like it here; give me another two weeks", just isn't going to wash.

Oh, That is the silliest thing I read so far in a visa thread --- you sure you're grown up enough to travel?

Agreed. That is definitely the silliest "reason" anyone can ever come up with.

I think we'd all agree that it ought to be a good reason

But it isn't and never will be

The visa extension is in the gift of the FRRO and generally you need a good reason to get a 15 day extension. We got one in Delhi some years ago but that was because our flight out had been messed up.

A friend of mine had a heart attack and an operation to open the arteries but a few weeks later he still couldn't get a renewal on medical grounds.

Thanks for not taking offence (or, at least, not commenting on it ) .

Have a great trip!

Don't know about Sri Lanka, but have a feeling visa not needed?
