Visa Application Timing for Americans
Is it possible to apply for a long-term visa if your current short-term visa is still valid? For example, I have a valid six month visa but want to apply for a 5 or 10 year visa.

I just heard of someone needing to extend a visa, and sending their passport in. It was returned with the old visa cancelled, and a brand new one put in. You could always just try sending in your ap, check and passport, and see what you get back. Of course Merchant's idea might work too
