US visa applications!!
This is information for people who are intending to apply for a visa in the USA to travel to the Republic of India!
All visa applications made in the USA from 1st October 2007 must be done through 'Travisa Inc' the agent chosen by the Indian Embassy in Washington DC to handle all of their and the other FOUR US Indian Consulate visa applications. Counter and postal applications direct to the Indian Embassy and/or Consulates will not be entertained after 30th September 2007. This is stated on the relevant Embassy and Consulate websites. Travisa Inc will charge an additional $13 on top of the Embassy/Consulate fees. Applications will be accepted by the Embassy/Consulate in emergencies only. For further information please visit the Embassy or Consulate General of India website. |

So, if the counter staff in the Embassy and other Consulates in the US are not needed now. They can help the other guys 'out the back' print and stick in the visas. I would imagine the agent who takes on this task in the UK will make a few quid! They really need to work on this 'visa on entry' quick. I'm sure it will encourage more to visit India. I hope the British are granted this on arrival however, I very much doubt we will. Anyway this was a link on the Consulate General of Chicago webiste. It said click here for applying for visa http://indiavisa.travisaoutsourcing.c om/ Here is the news from Washington - The Embassy of India in the US. http://www.indianembassy.org/newsite/visa.asp Another link on that site will take you to the message of the Indian Ambassador to the US. |

Here's the link to the Consulate in San Francisco:
http://www.cgisf.org/ It was a madhouse the other day. Many people completed the old, pre-outsourcing applications, but Travisa would not accept any forms without their logo even though, of course, the old and new form request the same information. |

This is actually soooooo convenient. Just complete the online application, submit credit card details, print and pop into the mail. Five days after they receive it, they FedEx it all back to you. Granted I'm going on a very planned trip ... nothing last minute, so don't know how that would work. (oh and I paid for the 10 year visa, so won't have to do it again for another decade).

Thanks a million for posting this. I had bookmarked the instructions page on the SF consulate website, and this page is still up and makes no mention of the change in process. I was gonna drive up to SF today and apply in person using the old process!

As I understand it, Spanky, you can drop off your application at Travisa in the morning and pick it up that afternoon -- but since Travisa is downtown, I'd recommend you take Caltrain up and take a bus from the station ... no parking at this location.
Hmmm... they don't actually say it will be ready in one day ... better phone them to be sure. https://indiavisa.travisaoutsourcing...francisco.html |
