US passport center lost my passport????

Maybe? I sent it in to change my last name and followed all their directions. I haven't seen my new passport yet and its been a month and a half. Yes I'm a worry wart!! I'm starting to get nervous because I leave in 2 months and still have to get my Indian visa. I hate rushing! Anyone gotten their name changed? How long did yours take? I don't even know where to start to try and find the stupid thing.

I sent mine out to have more pages sewn in and, like you, was beginning to worry (new pages and name change are the same process). The website says that unless you requested (and paid for) expedited service, you can expect it take about six weeks.

Scroll down to "Routine Service."

Why don't you call the Passport Office? I'm sure they can let you know what stage it is at (or at least that they have it!!) and therefore put your mind at rest.

At least with the place I had to send mine (Charleston, SC), they didn't publish a phone number. I looked and looked because I wanted to send the passport via FedEx, which requires a phone number. Without it, I had to use US mail.

Merchant .... that is exactly where I sent mine!! I was trying to find a phone number also but no such luck!!

I went into the passport website and found and email ... I filled everything out and hit "send" then an error came up that said the page is no longer valid. !!!!!!!!!

I found another email address for general questions so I tried that but I have a feeling that will be lost in some parallel universe

Of course calling was my first thought but since I'm at work I won't be able to except during lunch but that has already passed so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

I suspect your pp is okay. You're just now at six weeks. It should be along any day now--certainly before your trip. If it is actually lost, you can get an expedited new one, and the visa only takes a day. Your trip won't have to be scrubbed.

Hi Lokie, I don't know where you live, but if you can't get to an Indian Consulate, check to see if there is a visa camp near you. The San Francisco office has them in LA, Seattle, Livingston and Phoenix. NY office has one in Lowell, Mass. Chicago office covers the midwest. You can get your visa in a day at the camps and don't have to trust your passport to the postal service again.
