UK Visa, Indian passport queries..urgent
hi all,
well, this is a sort of a question that will qualify 50% for indiamike and 50% for UKMike. duh, i got my work permit for the UK. now, i also got married recently. so both my spouse and i have indian passports prior to our marriage. so i guess we will have to take 2-3 days off and do the following.. 1). wait for the permit to arrive 2). rush to my parent's place in varanasi and get the marriage registered. i think the permit will arrive in india by this friday. so i am bookign a flight from chennai to varanasi on friday evening/night. the marriage can bve registered on monday. (sat, sun and tuesday are holidays) 3). then we have to get a dependent visa for my wife in delhi. so what do we have to do for that? does she need to get her passport changed (from miss to mrs)? and then i think she can apply for the dependent visa with a photovcopy of my work permit as proof?? or can u straight away apply for dependent visa without getting the passport changed?? please advice on this matter.

No need to change passport to Mrs. I still have my passport in my maiden name -- and I had no difficulty in the least in getting a dependent visa.

Almoraboy, dont know the answer to your question, but maybe this will help, from the British High Commission website..
HERE or FAQ which seems to indicate two working days if no appointment.

Congratulations and very best wishes, both for getting through the short term official stuff and for the future together, be it in UK, India or wherever
![]() Hope you still find time for IndiaMike! ![]() If UK visa people have no reason to be suspicious they can be very quick --- but I have no experience of settlement visa applications. You should take photocopies to give them, but take along the originals to show. I expect you knew that anyway... The only thing might be that you just got married --- if you have evidence that the two of you have known each other a while that would be good. But I'm guessing here...

Dont forget you need a visa too which is different from the work permit. its a mere formality and i guess you know that already

hi all,
thanks for the "lightning" help.. that is why this forum rocks. this will be my 3rd time in UK, 2nd time for my spouse. we werethere for 2 months earlier...on a normal business visa (me) + tourist visa (her). so i guess one thing is clear...no need for change in our indian passports. then i will go to the british high commission tomorrow morning and ask them about how soon can they issue a dependent visa..after we apply. let us hope the govt babus in varanasi give a marriage certificate quickly enough .. otherwise u lose precious leaves. and UK has faster broadbond..so yes, indiamike is still on ![]() |

Almoraboy...dont make the mistake of turning up at an UK port with your work permit but no visa. The lack of a visa should have prevented you from boarding the plane in the first place but the fact that you have previous Uk visas and if one of them is current then perhaps the airline might think you are going back on business or tourism. Your purpose is now for work so you need a work visa. this is different from the work permit you have got. the work permit will show that there is a job waiting for you in the UK and on that basis a work visa/entry clearance will be issued by the British HC.

As you have travelled before, I find it hard to think that you have got the work permit/visa thing confused --- but it is a pretty vital point!

Done the UK work permit+dependant visa thing myself recently... so thought i would chip in.
1. you recieve the original work permit 2. you apply for work visa and your wife applies for dependant visa - this can be done at the same time. For your case you need to provide the work permit, employment offer/deputation letter etc. In your wifes case the marraige certificate is required. 3. allow 4 working days for the visa to get done (practical exp )4. get tickets and travel insurance 5. get a chest x-ray done for both of you. you will need it at heathrow immigretion.you can get it done there too but it will needlessly cause lot of delay after a long haul flight. then Bon voyage.... |

Chest X-Ray .... That's a new one!!Are you sure ... what for? I can understand your employer in the UK asking for a medical ... but not Immigration.
