For those told to go see a doctor, do wear some good underpants, apparently one of the doctors used by the UK Visa folks for medicals in Delhi asks those attending to show their privates and cough. Not sure what this shows medically.

Thanks
Thanks for your comments Nayan. It was really helpful.
Do you know what is the clearance process at UK airport as regards to X-ray? If we take x-ray film from India, what is done by UK authorities after that for X-ray screening and any other medical examination and how much time it takes? Please let me if anyone knows about it. Thanks again. |

I didn't know this and I was taken to a room, stripped
and made to give an X-Ray.They didn't do that when I visited UK with a business visa. But the first time on a work permit, they asked me this, because I will be staying for more than a few weeks. They didn't ask me this the second time I entered on a work permit, though.

No idea Soordas, but if it's about TB, you'd think it would already have been diagnosed when the X-ray was taken at home (and you'd hopefully be then advised to undergo treatment and not to travel), and the X-ray as such is just required as proof upon landing.

I don't think they deport you, although I wouldn't put anything past my compatriots.
AFTERTHOUGHT... I mean the politicians, not the ordinary folk, of course. |

According to the information messages on the walls of the x-ray waiting area, it is specifically said that they are NOT going to deport you. They will arrange for some medical treatment in case of any ailment found.
(This was reported by the colleague I had written earlier about) |

Hm. I've known people who caught it, or open TB at least (the far more infectious variety I believe). If I'm not mistaken, treatment may include a lengthy period of quarantine or at least very limited contacts (who then need to be checked), basically until it's subsided.
Something I'd personally rather do at home... |

Heya everyone! I have the same question as soordas below. Is there any limit of how old the chest x-ray is? Would taking a chest x-ray 2-3 weeks before travel suffice or do I need to take it just a few days before the travel date?
Lemme know. |

There was no stipulation on how recent it had to be(at least as far as I remember - it was 1 year ago).
to be on the safe side take one done withing last 1 week. Just the x-ray plate does the job. |
