UK re-entry - chest X-ray

Hello,
I am travelling for a second time to UK and the last time I had travelled I had taken my chest X-ray wit me. But I vaguely remember the person at the counter who checked it said I would not need it again as long as I travel with the same Visa. Can anyone who has entered more than once with the same Visa confirm if I need the X-ray at every entry.

? A chest X-ray? For what, to identify you? And I thought biometrics was going a bit far...

Can you explain what it means precisely or what it's required for? I'm not doubting you, just never heard of it before. Is this really required for Indians traveling to the UK? Or do you mean an X-ray of your suitcase? (?)

I believe it is a rule for some time now that we need the chest X ray. i think it is basically to check for TB or something. Nonsense!! if u ask me.

Aha, yes, tuberculosis might make sense actually, hadn't thought of it. (Makes you wonder if it's required of Brits returning from certain destinations though. And if no other proof than an X-ray would be available. Such as a doctor's attestation or so.)

usually this type of test are done when you reach that country...two common test are
1) X ray to test TB
2) blood test to test HIV

And how can you prove that it's your chest in the x-ray?

Yes; I've lived somewhere where an HIV test was mandatory for immigrants/long-termers (same in India, I believe?) Tourists (which were important there and of which there were many) and locals were exempt though; presumably not to piss either party off, but kind of defeating the purpose you'd think. Esp. with some tourists' notions of entertainment, ahem.

Oh well; if them's the rules them's the rules I guess, little point arguing over it which is unlikely to get you into the country in any case. But this X-ray business strikes me as somewhat outlandish indeed.

I had shown the x-ray when entering the first time through heathrow. I had subsequently gone on short trips to Europe and returned through Stanstead after 10-15 days. On reentry I disnot have to show any such X-rays.(In fact it did not strike me at all that I may need this x-ray thing again).

I dont know what will be the scenario if you are returning after a sojourn in India(ie returning thru Heathrow) or after a long gap.

(No, you do not need HIV test to settle in India. You will still find that reference around, but it was done away with some time back (2003, I think?))

Especially as I'm sure you could buy on eBay!

No special incentive in fudging the x-ray. A chest X-ray can be done very cheaply in India(100 to 150 rupees)in diagnostic centres available in all small towns too. No hassle too..... it gets done in 10mins.

All teenagers are vaccinated against TB in the UK.
But there has been a significant increase recently in cases of TB and this has been put down to the increase in migrant workers particularly from the eastern eurpoean countries where vaccination policy is less stringent.

I am travelling to UK on student visa. Can someone please tell following:
1) do we have to carry just the chest x-ray film or some x-ray report as well?
2) can we take chest X-ray from any doctor in India or from some designated doctor?
3) are there any other medical test required apart from x-ray?

Will appreciate any help on this. Thanks

1. just the film. no report required
2. no doctor required. any diagostic/x-ray clinic will take an x-ray of your chest and give you the film
3. not that i know of.
