Till the experts reach this thread, to my knowledge no, it is not fine.

oh oh, that sounds really bad. need help urgently!!!
So modified your thread title to indicate that.
thank you
One doesn't have to be much of an expert know that over-staying a visa is criminal. And you want another couple of months out them? Didn't you even consider the words "visa validity" before booking your ticket?
If you are lucky, they may, if you show them your ticket, give you permission to stay until the day of that flight.
They may not though: the last thing they want to encourage is the idea that anyone can extend their holiday by just popping in and paying the fee (actually fine for overstaying).
What if they insist you leave earlier. You have to buy the ticket.
It is in their hands to cause you limitless hassle, even including extending to you the traditional hospitality of a cell. Perhaps its more likely that they will screw you up with daily bureaucracy. They are very unlikely to wish you a happy stay for the rest of your trip.
The longer you leave it the more serious they are likely to be about it. And why not; you are taking the piss with this country's laws.
You had better get to that FRRO very soon.

Korben Dallas,
Answer to your question? NO, You no longer have the legal right to be here.
So when you applied for the visa and signed to say you agree to it all etc did you not think that overstaying your visa might be an issue!
It doesn't look good - well it isn't good - having an outward flight 2 months after your authorisation to be in India has expired!
Unless, you have a valid reason. Like being ill in hospital. Then yes you do need help.
A very stupid thing to do! I also think that they may come down on you a bit harder due to recent events - regardless of the state you are in. This is a criminal act so I suggest you act fast!
Next time take note of the forms you are signing and the information printed on your visa - if they give you one!
Where are you from? Does it annoy you when foreigners abuse the visa regulations of your nation?
I'm sorry if you have a good valid excuse where by you were incapable of getting on an aircraft, but it appears it was done with intention or at least indirect intention although they will see it as deliberate I reckon.
Good luck!

FRO only gives 15 days so maybe the person is already in the jail. How much charras..
Just in case the OP does come back on to read the responses (and for anyone else who is in a similar position):
- be very apologetic and humble when dealing with the authorities at the airport.
- the chances of having to pay a fine are very high.
- it would help a lot if you could get a medical certificate (backdated) by a good doctor, saying you couldn't leave the country due to illness.
- finally, get to Nepal ASAP & apply for another visa when you are there. The only problem with that is that given you have overstayed the visa, the Indian govt. may well refuse to allocate another visa. In which case, you are right-royally-screwed.
Please do update us here to inform what is/has happened.
Cheers

Hi everybody im new to this blog, my situation is a bit similar to this one but but a little more screwed up. My visa got expired in January and i'm still in India till now.. that is, 8 months!! i know i'm totally screwed. My problem is i cant find a doctor to issue a medical certificate as an excuse for my overstay (due to over staying period being TOO long). Its was a mistake, a big one. Now i desperately wanna go back to my country. I can pay no matter how much they want me to pay, i just want to know if there's anything i can do now?? real quick? Anybody's help will be highly appreciated thanks.

Contact the nearest FFRO and beg for forgiveness and ask them the procedure to be regularized. See similar threads for fines and penalties.

Make sure someone knows about this and that you are going to the FRO. If they pull you in for this massive overstay you will vanish for some time without anyone knowing to help. Hope for the best and deal with it sooner rather than let it get worse..
