Nycank you must let us know your secret! Could it be because you are 'homeless'?

ya.. I really don't think that's a problem: generally you just need to carry two passport with you, the expired one with the valid VISA and the new passport for your identity. At least, that's what I do for other countries, but don't know about India...

I have personally not tried this for India; though VFS FAQ say it is not mandatory to transfer the visa, Some of the folks I know and respect over the years have done this in the past.

Further news on this. VFS have replied to my email. Quote 'two weeks' for processing of non-Canadian passports. They sent my passport to the Consulate the day it was received on 29 June they say. They let me have a tracking number.

Which is now good, and on track. If you were not too far away from the nearest consulate, it would have been advisable to drop it off/visit the location.

At times as the saying goes - No pain, no gain Only two times I've mailed in my passport - both times to Passport Processing Centers - and both times with registered/w Ack. receipt under the advice of the local Post Office.

Keep us informed how it plays out.

Thanks nycank. No, too far to get to Consulate. Agree that this would have been the best option. Their site quotes for Canadian citizens and permanent residents a wait of between 5-7 days if I remember correctly. Yet I was advised in the email that 'non Canadian passports take over two weeks'. All Permanent Residents hold non-Canadian passports so there is an anomaly there.
