I went to the official U.S. Embassy website and found this press release - http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/pr092005.html - and it contains more information than the website you have listed. It also has links to a list of locations and VFS offices directly under the date. I hope that is helpful.

I think thousand of websites are doing the same over the internet. Providing the same holiday list and visa information and other details. Even sometime embassy site goes down in competition. What do you think.

Can anyone give me a clue as to how long your passport should be valid to apply for a tourist US visa to the US from India. Mine will be valid for around 14 months from my proposed date of travel. I know the embassy site states that you should renew your passport if it is valid for 6-12 months before applying. Should I take a chance with 14 months validity? There is a slight chance that I may be applying for a US tourist visa in the near future.

No problem. Normally they ask for a six month validity. 14 months is a lot.

And, in case you didn't know, expired passports with valid visas are routinely attached to new passports, so the visas can still be used.
