Hi Everyone. My girlfriend and I are looking to head to India next year and would like to really make a go of it, but don't want to limit ourselves exclusively to only a six month stay, as per visitor visa requirements (we are from Canada). The idea would be to stay as long as we can and learn yoga, meditation, tantra, sanskrit, while doing odd jobs for room and board. Any ideas how to prolong the visit without getting in trouble with the authorities? Any advice would be most greatly appreciated.

If you get the ten-year tourist visa, you still have to leave the country every six months, but you won't have to go through the process of getting new visas. They are available to Americans--I assume they are available to Canadians. You can then stay in India in six-month installments, broken up by trips outside the country.
