I suppose to receive 5 years student visa, and as far as i know, soon after arrival i have to registrate in tourist foreign office, what gives status of resident. Is this status only for these 5 years or permanent?
It will be for as long as the FRRO gives. They may give a 'Registration Certificate/Resident Permit' for the duration of your visa; it may have to be renewed annually.
