After heering all your answers I will stop thinking of starting a business i India for the moment, and i sted concentrate on making it as easy as possible to run my company from India, it should not be a problem.

i suggest u come on visit visa, and stay in kochi or anyother place(with good internet connectivity) for a awhile and continue running ur business online.

u can use this time to find a good lawyer..and more details...but i think its easier to start a business in tamil nadu than kerala..so u should also consider that as well!

It really was not the intention to put you off, or at least not until I read that you have never been to india. Now it is!

Do come and visit the country. Visit it a few times over a period of years --- and then consider having a more permanent relationship with it. However; there is just about no immigration ladder. You can get visas to study, work, or live with your spouse in India: these visas are completely dependent on your course, your specific job, or your relationship. There is no sort of general settlement visa.

The money you spend on tax goes to a presumably honest system of government. It will cost you just as much in India in BRIBES, and if you ever get that business visa, you will be subject to India's tax system...and possibly Denmark's as well, with foreign tax credits against your global income... expat taxes are a real pain in the butt.

If it's too hard getting an Indian business startet I will just keep earning my money from Denmark, but living in India. I know this will require going back to Denmark to renew my visas every 180 days.
Relieved to know you have dropped the idea of starting a business. Business visas are impossible (almost) to get these days. Those on one, were recently asked to leave.

Like others, I suggest you go to India on a holiday for a month or two and see how you feel at the end of it. I don't particularly think going to a new place once, is enough for anyone to decide to live there permanently. It may well be that you love India as a tourist, but living there, let alone running a business is a vastly different experience.

If, after a few visits and months in India, you still feel strongly about living there, then atleast you are going into it with some awareness of what to expect.

I wish you well in whatever you decide to do. And lastly:

Welcome to IM

I'd say you have to pay a lot of taxes in Denmark, but you get a very good infrastructure, too. And India is no tax paradise, either, as long as you're not on a very low income.

Still, have a great time in Kerala, it's a beautiful place, enjoy it!

Absolutely.

It is my dream to live in Kerala. Those native to the state often try to put me off, with real-life description of the life beneath the "God's Own Country" veneer. They haven't entirely succeeded yet; I still have my dream! However, it is certainly not a place that I would go to start a business. Never mind the country-wide rules and regulations, the Kerala trade unions will make then seem easy going! ---And I speak as a believer in the trade-union movement!

I think you should begin by reading the agreement between India and Denmark on double taxation and how it applies to your specific business
Specially since you are an online business.

Next you make an appointment with the Commercial Interest section of the Indian Embassy in Copenhagen about starting a business in India.

Whatever you do, who ever you talk to or hire locally in India;[ at the bottom-of-the-ninth with two outs, ] You have to go to Indian Embassy in Copenhagen [ to pinch hit, in absence of a DH rule ]

OTH, If taxes is what you want to avoid paying, and living in a tax friendly country with good weather Try Grand Cayman, Bahamas,Turks & Caicos, Bermuda...

Why Not

Why not start a business in India? Because it is far more complicated than you can ever imagine. Sounds great on paper and all, sounds great from a tax point of view but the reality is that you will loose a few years trying to set it up with the lack of experience one has from coming from another country. Perhaps finding an Indian partner might be worth looking into once you get to India. But that too is wrought with problems.

Just visit India first without visions of grandeur of starting something there. Take your time...

Thumbs up

For an Indian, i can let you all know that setting up a company is a very straight forward process and depending on the type of company you are setting up can be done within days.. Even i was surprised as i was expecting a lot of bureaucracy but it was simple.. Any Chartered Accountant can help you with the process and it does not cost much.... Some of the process is online as well!

For a foreigner, i guess there will be some restrictions.. depending on the sector you may have to go for Joint Venture with indian partner or you can set up 100% wholly owned subsidiary.. If you contact a chartered accountant while you are in india they may help you out..

Of course there are other things you have to consider like company bank accounts etc., hiring people, Indian rules & taxes, but it is not as bad as it sounds..

Do some research and if you like India, give it a go.

)))

By the way, it took me SIX MONTHS to open a company bank account In total, it took around nine months to prepare everything for normal operations. The incorporation itself takes around a month, but that's just the beginning...
