Stamp on leaving the country?

Recently, I have extended my visa for 1 month. Now, the FRRO wants me to get a stamp some days before I leave (they asked me to come at least 5days before). I an wondering what the consequences are if I dont get the stamp and just present my extension at the airport. What if I only go one day before I leave?

Thnks,
Tim

ok, I took a second look at my extension. It is just a residential permet with a stamp on it: "permitted to extend stay."

They probably want you to come and get your exit permit. DO IT..

I had a travel agent I had known for awhile get me an exit permit which I received only hours before my flight was departing(!) on a late Friday. At the airport the immigration officer noticed that they had put the wrong destination on the exit permit. Well, he then REFUSED to allow me to leave India!!! LOL! First you have difficulty extending stays in India, and then you have the same difficuly leaving!

At midnight on a Friday they asked me to go back to the office on Monday and ask them to change to the right destination on the exit permit... My ticket was $1400 and non-refundable. I was furious and refused to bend for this nonsense. How was it my fault that they don't know how to spell and write properly? They had copies of the airline tickets with destination when we applied for the permit in the first place. The immigration officer then completely ignored me and refused to allow me to board the flight.

The same evening they had some kind of undercover sting at the airport. I recognized several daytime police officer I had once seen at the Superintendents office. They pretended to be civilians waiting for flights. I went up to him, "Oh! You're undercover are you? I recognize you! You are so and so! You work daytimes too; don't you people ever sleep?" It was a bit embarrassing for him...
I told him he had to help me because I had to catch this flight and his office had made a mistake in my exit permit. I made a huge scene when they refused and blew his cover (LOL!). Finally, because I would not give up, they corrected the mistake of destination into the exit permit and allowed me to leave.

But I was lucky because this man was a senior in the same department that gives both extensions and exit permits. Later the Indians on the flight told me they were truly surprised to see me board the flight ten minutes before departure... they had made a bet I wouldn'y make the flight and I had been their entertainmement that late night!
