Spelling Correction in Passport
Hi,
I have got a query with respect to change of spelling of my first name in passport. My First Name : Qutubuddin In Passport, this has come as : Qutbuddin, the 'u' being dropped out. I need to apply for Work permit in UK. Please can anyone let me know the procedure to correct this and the time this will take as I need to get this done as soon as possible. Also if only making an affidavit for the same will do or not? Thanks in advance |

You need to check this out the kolkata passport office. It should be a simple matter. THey may require an affidavit, unless it is a clerical error.
And they may have information on this online.

You should go to the passport office and ask them to change it.
What else? (Actually there is an alternative: many travels companies have agents that deal with passports and visas. For a small fee they can advise on the forms to be filled and save you much of the queueing and frustration of dealing with the matter yourself) |

You'd think this might certainly come in handy when applying for a work permit in the UK yes.
Thing is, I recently saw a formal communication by an Indian embassy written in exactly such language... Aaargh "Cud u plz" etc, u no da dil (--> you know the deal, for all you linguistically impaired).

Unless it is a clerical error, any change in name will attract full fees.If your birth certificte/school leaving certificate depicts your desired name it is O.K. otherwise you will have to submit affidabit, copy of published advertisement alongwith application form.

The name change normally Reqs rs 1500/- and in tatkal cases where it will done in 3 workin days , the fees in rs 3000/-
I myself went through this whn my name was taken as SRI KANTH instead of SRIKANTH . but i didnt get the correction since many people i consulted told its nt a big problem since the spelling is not wrong. |
