Sikkim permit

Hi -

Am planning a trip to India for November and December. I'm wanting to visit Sikkim and read you will need a permit. What is the best way to obtain one? I read that you can ask for a stamp in your passport when you apply for your visa? Anyone have any info on the quickest and best way to do this. Any info would be great. Cheers,

You can ask for it when you get your visa but for some reason they won't always do it.

Doing it at the border I found it was painless and simple, Indian bureacracy doesn't seem to have reached those parts.

Doing it in Darjeeling is a pain in the arse and I can't understand why anyone does it that way!

I just applied for my Indian visa at the embassy in Singapore, all I had to do was write down the places in Sikkim I wanted to visit. There was no extra charge and they processed it normally.

I reckon you might have an easier time getting it done at the border once you're there -- as mentioned, the process in Darjeeling does appear to be harder than it should be!
