Renewing Indian Tourist Visa outside the U.K.

Hello,
Last time I renewed my 6 month Indian Tourist Visa I did so in Bangkok at Glaus Haus. Recentley I have been told that the rules have been changed & that I will only get 3 month's unless I return to my own country to renew. Can anyone confirm if this is true or false. I have contacted Embassies & visa service's eithout satisfaction.

Thanks

Indian Vias

On another forum, someone went to Bangkok recently
and got a 6 month tourist visa, almost upon arrival
in Bangkok.

Steve: I have deleted your email address - not a good idea to leave this on an open internet forum - it is an open invitation to spammers and advertisers.

In another thread you said that you are about to relocate to Goa permanently. Do you plan to live there on a series of back-to-back tourist visas?

The Embassy of India, Kathmandu, Nepal gives the following advice on its web site:

Quote:
Tourist Visas which are now valid for 6 months are issued only to those foreigners who have no residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective in visiting India is recreation, sight-seeing or casual visits to friends and relatives. Tourist visas count from the date of issue and cannot be extended or converted into any other category in India.

Repeated applications for tourist visas will not be entertained.
I'm glad to see that the Embassy is clamping down on back-to-back tourist visas.

You might be glad, but it is not good news for me!

My partner will be working in India for two years, and during that time I will want to make a lot of short visits, as well as potentially one longer one so will need four back to back six month visas.

Hopefully, if you apply in your home country, they will make an exception for those who do not stay in the country the whole time.

Why

John S.W. Why are you glad to see the back, of long termers in India, not being able to get back to back visas.
Ive lived in Goa for the past 9 years on and off.
I rent from a Goan family, i spend my money in the area i live.
I make no problems.
I cant see your logic.

My point precisely. You have a valid reason for having back-to-back visas, you won't be staying in India for years on multiple tourist visas, and you won't be border-hopping to get a visa in Sri Lanka, Nepal, or Bangkok.

A Tourist Visa is a tourist visa, intended for tourists to carry out tourism in India. It's not a right to live in India.

As a foreigner, do you pay the same rent as a Goan? Of course not. You pay a higher rate which inflates house prices and home rental for local people. This is just one of the problems that you cause.

Tourists

And the 2, 3, 4 week tourists do nothing to muck up the economy.
Wake up.
After living there for 9 years, i have more idea on prices than the planes loaded with package tourists ever will.
Sure i pay more than the locals, but what i spend goes inti the comunity, not to some fancy complex.

The 2, 3, 4 week tourists are here on Tourist Visas. They have been invited by the Indian Government to visit India as tourists.

Nobody has invited them to live in India on a series of Tourist Visas.

In your earlier post you said, "I make no problems", but now you admit that you do.

There nothing on a Tourist Visa that says, "if what you spend goes into the community, not to some fancy complex, you can live here for 9 years on a series of back-to-back tourist visas".

I'm just interested to know why you think you have a right to live in India on a tourist visa? Is it a written law that allows you to do this, or is it a moral right?

Steve's home country would certainly not tolerate such abuse of a tourist visa, and any Indian person wishing to move to the United Kingdom would need a lot more than a simple desire to live there.

How right, Mickey S.

Can you imagine an Indian tourist in the UK doing the visa run to Dublin, Paris or Amsterdam to get a new UK visa, and living in the UK for 9 years on back-to-back tourist visas?

It's laughable.

So why should it be any different for a UK tourist visiting India?

Would you be standing for the Goan state Government, by any chance, John?
