which surely the Indian embassy in Turkey did not had & by the way I am in Mumbai.
It says "may" be solemnised, not "shall" be solemnised. This provision exists because is some countries (for e.g. in the Gulf where there is no provision for non-Mulsim Indians to marry), the local law may not allow Indians to marry. Where the local law allows such marriage, the MHA usually does not appoint marriage officers.

I think the Embassy officials don't know what they are talking about. A marriage valid at the place where it took place is valid everywhere (usually).

If not, the possibilities would be interesting

I believe in the earlier days of the Raj, it was usual for married Indian students who went to England for higher studies to "forget" their Indian marriage and later argue that the Indian marriage was invalid when sued for maintenance.

I suspect that you may not have to go very far back in history to find such behaviour. Try yesterday. Or today even!

Exactly... and interesting; it had never occurred to me that some countries would not allow marriages other than under a certain religion.

Err, some of these countries will harrass you if they find eg a cross on a pendant, or a kada (the steel bangle sikhs wear).. or sometimes even a wife or girlfriends photograph on your person.

Strange world.

I've lived a sheltered life.

I do remember having an attack of severe paranoia between-flights at Kuwait airport.

I was eating my ham sandwich from home...

I didn't think so at the time: I confidently expected the Islamic Food Police* to drag me off at any moment.

But I had made it at home, it was a good sandwich, and I didn't want to waste it.

Now... sorry, there was something about FRRO?

*which, I guess, was a kind of prejudice on my part!

Well yes. Take good example Iran!!!

even IF your religion is converted to Islam. still the iran government wants a special permission if you want to marry an Iranian woman. this takes about 7 years of hopeless impossible paperwork. . I failed and I left iran most mad i ever was.
