Re-entry visa for Tibetans
My friend is a Tibetan born and resident in India, with green book and Identity Certificate. He travelled for the first time last year to UK. On returning to India he was faced with difficulties at Heathrow where they said he should have a visa to return to India. (luckily they let him travel, but he wants to travel again next year, and doesn't want to take any chances).
Any idea whether this visa should be applied for in India before departure - where to apply and what to apply for?! or can it be applied for in UK at the Indian Embassy when he is there? Thanks for any suggestions/help offered. ![]() |

He does not need a visa, but what he needs is a NORI stamp in his Identity Certificate.

Thanks Haylo,
He has this on his IC, (a NORI certificate was obtained in order to apply for the IC) and also a stamp that says something along the lines 'Valid for travel provided a visa is obtained'. We thought this only applied to travelling to other countries, but officials at Heathrow disagreed - seems people aren't used to seeing an IC, and he had some problems travelling with it. |

I enquired at the Indian Embassy in Dublin and was told that he does need to apply for a visa in the country that he travels to in order to re-enter India. I was told that he would need to submit his IC, an application form and a photo, but no supporting documents are required. It would be at the discretion of the issuing Embassy what type of visa he would get, but it would at least be free of charge.
Thanks anyway for your help Haylo. I hope this info might be of help to someone somewhere. |

A friend of mine came to Belgium recently with IC (NORI was there) and we had to go to the Indian embassy in Brussels to have a visa to return to India.
