Question regarding Visa's

Hello IndiaMike, I'm new and have been made anxious about my visa!

I just called a tavel agency and was about to FINALLY book the tickets for my journey when the travel agent starting asking about my Visa, wether i have it yet etc. I'm looking to travel soon, aroung the 7th of Feb and sent my Visa application off on the 15th (of this month- yes I've left it late!)
The travel agent has told me that there are currently big delays at the India High Commission and that his company have had to wait up to 6 weeks to get Visa's processed. He's holding the tickets for my while I get more information.

Does Aanyone know whether this is accurrate? Are there big delays on visa's at the moment? Or is this guy just being a drama queen?

I am flexible and can delay my trip a little, but obviously I've applied for my visa to cover my intended travel dates!

Any advise/information would be really helpful!

Visa applications

I have been keeping an eye on this over the past few weeks, a couple of people have posted on this site recently who received their postal application visas back within 2-3weeks so I think 6 weeks would be unusual. I also emailed the High Commision in London last week and they said it was taking about 3 weeks at present.

I think your agent is a few weeks out of date, and may not realise that things have improved vastly since the chaos of a couple of months back.

Check out the reports coming back from other members in other threads.

ps...

Welcome to the site

Oh no, that has got me worried, I am leaving Ireland on the 11th Feb and I was going to sort out my visa at the beginning of next week, which should leave a little under 3 weeks (I will be going to the Indian embassy personally).

Don't worry.

The London High Commission is back, it seems from what members report, to its previous same day (couple of hours, once you get in) service.

Just... check out the list of public holidays on their site before you go, and don't (just in case) leave it until the day before you fly!

Update...

I went to London yesterday to get 2 visas, arrived at 7.30am and there were maybe 100+ people in the queue already.

Soon after 8am the queue started moving slowly, I got to the 'Q ticket window' at about 9am and was given 2 tickets and told to come back at 10am. I returned at 10am and had to wait inside for about half hour to get to the application point which took about 5mins, was then given a receipt and told to return after another hour. I went back at about 11.30am and had picked up the visas by 12.

So I arrived at 7.30 and was done by 12, it did all seem a bit chaotic but worked out OK, I heard someone say they were issuing over 3000 visas every day!

If anyne has any specific questions please ask...

Does anybody know how the process goes in Dublin? I will find out for myself on Tuesday but it always helps to have some prior warning. Also I noticed on the form it mentions references? Are those required for tourist visa's or just longer term or working visas? or is it just that they reserve the right to ask for them?

urm, i dunno if this is normal as im a first timer, but if it is it would put my mind at ease to know; do they normally send your passport back (on its own) first?

I imagine it's the same as here in the US. The Visa is attached to a page in your passport, so no, you don't get your passport back first. It used to be a big stamp that took up a whole page but now it's a visa form that's glued onto a passport page (here in the US).

i'd worry if you didnt laugh....i did for sure! its just my family went with my step father (who's been to india and organised all paperwork for us) last time...that was 5 years ago, i vaguely had remembered sheets of paper with photographs...so got worried when just my passport, alone and with not even a covering letter arrived! lol. and yep, stepdad laughed too, and my mum!

Thank you all for your help IndiaMike! i will enjoy my trip and im sure i'll return to grace these pages with sheer uninformed ridiculous-ness sometime over the duration!
