Question about Israeli getting a visa
I am supposed to be traveling in India with an Israeli I know in Feb. She told me that there is a new law that Israelis must stay out of the country for 6 months before they are allowed back in or allowed to get a visa.
She left India on Aug 7th and we are supposed to meet on Feb 12th, which is just over the 6 months, but then there is supposed to be a 5 day waiting time for her to get the visa. Does anyone know if that law is real or if it was just a travel office trying to make money off her? Also, if it is a real law, can she apply for the visa before the 6 months is up so she can have the visa before the 10th of Feb as that is when her flight leaves. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried to get on the Indian Embassy website for Israel, but I cant see any of the info. Either a problem with their website or my computer. Thanks, Chris |

I left on Aug 6th and am American. |

No news of this what so ever. Maybe someone was having a joke at your expense? Sometimes there are reports of individual consulates threatening this. But, you could also be the first..

Thanks to both of you. I wasn't sure if a travel agency is just trying to take advantage of her or what. Maybe they want her to use them to get her the visa. I dont know. Thanks

I guess calling the embassy (or your own) is the best way to find out. Or your ministry of Foreign Affairs or something.
Good luck with it. |

I don't think you'll get a business visa just like that unless you're, well, on business and can prove it.
Multiple entry btw means leaving and re-entering the country. On a normal tourist visa this will still be limited to your 180 days stay from date of issue. Sorry, but there seems to be a lot of misinformation on this flying about. Barring some exceptional categories, as far as I know there exists no such thing as extending your visa in-country. What you do is leave and apply for an entirely new visa; while few problems are reported with this, some are, and you can never count on it working. If not, you are locked out. |

I had heard that it was a six month visa and then a 3 year no visa period either in force now or soon to be put in place.
It appears that visa's for many will be harder to get based on the behaviour of the people inside India and the behaviour of the governments towards Indians. India is getting somewhat pissed off so the consequences are of bad behaviour, time out or stay out. |

It wasnt that she wanted to get the visa while in India. She is in Israel now.
A travel agent told her that the Indian Embassy would not give her a new visa unless she was outside of India for 6 months first. She left Aug 7th so that would make it Feb 7th before they would give her a visa. To me, it seems like the travel agent is lying about having to be out of the country for 6 months so she will use them to get her visa. We are supposed to leave on Feb 10th. |

The place to check this out is at the Indian Embassy/Consulate in Israel!
