They have an Indian passport?
My guess is that the only problem they would have might be getting another visa to visit UK in the future. |

I doubt if you would get a straight answer from the UK authorities.
What could they say? "As per the existing rules and regulations ... blah blah blah... if you overstay your visa you could be fined or detained... blah blah blah... deported on a flight of our chosing at your expense and refused any future application for a UK visa ... blah blah blah etc." The fact is that many hundreds of thousands of people are living in the UK without visas or with expired visas. They find employment inside their own communities and unless they come to the attention of the police nothing happens to them. I would suggest you get in touch with some Indian travel agents in UK (for a friend of course) and ask them what generally happens in your (friend's) situation. I can't comment on the Indian side of things as I just don't know how the Indian Authorities would react. |

No problems on the India side as no Indian laws have been broken by overstaying in the UK.
The UK authorities will not give two hoots. I know of people who have overstayed for a few years at a time and gone back without problems. Only problem will be when applying for a visa to visit the UK or any other country in the future, but the people of India are know for their ingenuity and making a new passport with a new place of birth etc is not unknown. |

an article written by Jug Suriya about the indan "diaspora" - some of the words are in hindi though and could be hard to decipher for foreigners.
