Smile Good luck with PIO

If any of you can, OCI is the way to go! Lifelong Visa and can own property and work in India- when the American economy tanks!

When I took me and the kids to the fro office to registar as we were staying longterm I filled all the forms ut and put valid to stay in india for 15 years ,when my application was looked at the officer explained that we carnt we can only stay/or be valid to stay for the duration of our passports so if your kids are on a 5 year passport then that PIO is valid till the passport expires and restarts when they have a new passport if you have applied for a PIO when your passport was 7 years old then you duration is 3 years and then starts again when you get a new passport so really the max stay on a PIO card is 10years as passports only are valid for this period .Regtration should only be completed once and you should not be doing it over and over again.

The PIO card is only valid in conjunction with a valid passport. If the passport expires, the PIO card must be endorsed for the new passport --- although I don't see why this should not be dealt with in India.

The RC/RP is issued at the discretion of the FRRO/FRO. Some people seem to get 15-years, to match expiry of PIO; I got five. One must re-register/extend by the expiry date and, of course, inform change of address

Your registration certificate has an expiry date. You should have renewed it before that date.

It might have been months, it might have been years... only you can know that.

Did you leave India for any length of time? If so, you presumably informed the FRRO that you were no longer resident. If you did that, then yes you need to register again, however long you were registered for last time.
