PIO Question re Spouse

This may be a daft question for my first post but I'm asking for someone else so here goes.

If a PIO card holder names their wife on the card as their spouse but she does not have a PIO card in her own right does she need to keep renewing her visa or will she be able to gain entry to India on her husband's PIO?

At the moment this couple, who are both of Indian origin, have 5 year visas.

being named as 'spouse' on the card, as far as I'm aware, gives no rights whatsoever.

I just noticed that you are both of Indian origin.

Right; that'll be two PIO cards, then!

Or rather go for OCI, it's a better deal.

If a person is of Indian origin they can qualify for a PIO card individually. The husband cannot add the wife’s name to the PIO card. The wife has to apply for her own PIO card.

Thank you. That's what I thought. Me and my husband received our PIO cards yesterday (I'm English) and we are named as spouse on each other's cards. It's my husband's sister and her husband who have yet to apply for their cards.

I will mention OCI to them and see what they think.
