Pio For Iranian Wife

Hi All,
This Is My First Thread On This Forum.

My Wife Is An Iranian National Andholding A Valid 'x' Visa. We Are Married Since Dec 2007.we Now Wish To Apply For Pio ("person Of Indian Orgin") Card For My Wife.

We Would Like To Know In Detail How And Where Can We Get The Same .because When Approched The Frro Office Mumbai They Say That Iranian Nationals Have To Go To Frro Office New Delhi For Clearance , But Their Web Site Has No Such Speification And That The Same Can Be Issued Here In Ffro Mumbai.

You'll find that web site info and the way various FRRO offices understand or apply the law are often different. You might try to speak to the senior person at the FRRO (if you haven't already). Others may have more suggestions, but you may have to make a visit to Delhi. The good part is once she has the PIO card you're set for 15 years.

<crossposted with curtdfw - they do say great minds think alike!>

Hi sachin, welcome to IndiaMike.

The websites are very poor and miss a lot of detail. Just because it does not mention special rules for Iranians having to apply in Delhi, do not assume that there aren't any.

If the Delhi FRRO website does specifically say that Iranians can apply in Mumbai, then print that page out and take it to the Mumbai FRRO, asking to see a supervisor if necessary.

If not, you're unlikely to persuade the Mumbai FRRO to change their minds, unless you manage to see a helpful supervisor or unless the Delhi FRRO gives you something in writing to say that the Mumbai FRRO can deal with your wife's PIO application.

If they refuse, you cannot do anything, and you'll have to go to Delhi to apply. The good news is, you won't have to do it again for 15 years!

We have heard the same recently from a member with a Turkish wife. My theory is that the staff at Mumbai just don't want to do anything!

I may be over-extrapolating, but is it noteworthy that both Turkey & Iran are Muslim countries, and Mumbai the center of some of India's more strident anti-Muslim sentiment?

Possibly, but in situations like this, I apply Hanlon's Razor. This is an informal logical principle that states "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity"

Perhaps, this being India, we need Haylo's Razor "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by apathy or ineptitude"

Turkey is a muslim country, but they are a very open and liberal state.

Aren't they vying for a seat at the EU table?

Yes, and haven't the objections been on human rights grounds?
