PIO card or visa for baby born in India

Wondering if someone has had a recent experience along similar lines.

I am a UK citizen (with a PIO card) and my wife is Spanish and we are currently living in India. Our daughter was born in Mumbai recently and has a Spanish passport now. We need to take her out of India for holidays and had the following questions?

1. Does she need an exit permit to leave India and a separate visa to come back?

2. Can I apply for her India visa in Mumbai? How long does that take? Should I go to the FRRO office near St. Xaviers' college?

2. Since I am a former Indian citizen, I believe my wife and daughter both qualify for a PIO card. How long does it take to get a PIO card if I apply in Mumbai?

Any suggestions and tips would be welcome!

You are not the first!

I can't answer your questions, but I know that others have discussed similar scenarios here, so I recommend some searching.

You will register your child as British? I guess you have to do this stuff at the British High Commission. Then you will need exit permit and a visa/PIO card for her to come back. I think you can just apply for her PIO card here as you live here.

If the child is from Espana, does it really matter if the Dad is a former Indian citizen ?

My typical Brit-centric thinking assumed they would register the child as British. Of course, they might want her to be Spanish.

But, as to your question... in terms of living in or visiting India, it matters very much that her Dad is a former Indian Citizen.
