I am Indian citizen resident in UK for more than 8 yrs. I have right to stay in UK for indefinite period. Two and half years ago I married to British girl in London at the legal registrar office. Her parents are British citizen of Bangladeshi origin. My wife is born and brought up in UK. She never hold Bangladeshi passport. Her parents also do not have bangladeshi passport anymore.
Recently, my wife applied for PIO card in Indian High commission in UK, Since my wife and I want to permanently move to India this year. As per eligibility criteria she qualifies for PIO card being a spouse of Indian national. But, Her application was refused on the grounds that her parents are of bangladeshi origin that’s why she can't get PIO card. This is a huge problem for us, since we want to permanently move to India and I am not aware of anyother visa which will allow her to live with me in India. Please advice me if there is any other visa that will let my wife to live with me in India. |

An "X" or "Entry" Visa would, but would not allow her to work. They used to be available for up to five years --- but I've heard reports recently of them being stamped "maximum stay 180 days". That's hearsay: I cannot say for sure.
Unlike a tourist visa, an X visa is renewable in India. |

They are saying, they have applied this restriction to all long term visa.
Is there any forum in UK, that can help me take my case to Indian high commission. Last edited by Nick-H : Jan 21st, 2009 at 02:20. Reason: merged |

I have no idea, I am afraid. If you were a British citizen, perhaps your MP might help. An MP of Indian origin could be just the person: influence is what might work here.
