Today I submitted my application for renewal of my passport which is due for expiry soon. Just thinking about going to any such office gives you a feeling (specially in India) that you keep avoiding such tasks and that was I have been doing for past 2 weeks.
I reached office at around 9 am as I was under impression that it opens at that time but I was surprised to see that the Passport office opens at 10 am and there were already 100 people queued up. I got in the queue and started to chat around with few people , one of them who had come earlier also but the poor guy had to leave that day because he could not submit his papers as the counter closing time was 1:30pm and he could not make it. The major difference that I could spot today was that there were not any touts as compared to my previous visit at the same place. Because Passport authorities have made some changes such as if you are applying for 2-3 or more passports either you have to be the relative of those persons & you have to show your ID card or you have to get an authorisation letter from that person for applying on their behalf. Gate opened exactly at 10 am and lot of people who were standing outside the queue got inside and there was huge rush as I stepped inside the premises. I got to the renewal counter and there were around 35 people infront of me but I was surprised again as the line was moving so quickly that I got my turn in about an hours time as I reached the PRO office who first checks your papers and the PR manager signs it and then you just have to got the counter and deposit the cash/DD. In flat one and half hours I got everything done and huh.. man I was relieved and happy...that everything was done in one visit for 3 passports. This is just to let everyone know that its not that bad at all, you can go to offices like this and get your work done without much of a problem but make sure whatever thing you are getting done that you to have read the instructions carefully and all your documents and other things are in order. IT MAKES LIFE A LOT EASIER. |

Sorry, it was a long thread. Some of her experiences are mentioned in This Post . It took weeks. Getting the UK visa after being sent away for further documents the first time, took 24 hours.
