Passport - Police verification

2 more weeks and still twiddling thumbs. This wait is really harrowing .

Why not file an RTI application asking for status and reason for delay in issue.
Has worked for another poster here.

I received my passport from the regional passport office in Kolkata after 3 months from the date of application. In my experience police verification takes longest as one's application travels between a number of offices before reaching to the police station of one's locality. Police send verification reports in batches after a specific time period. The time period varies from place to place. And when the all-clear report finally reaches the passport office, the file waits in a longggggg queue to be cleared. It's a FIFO method of clearance and given the huge number of applications received daily and inefficiency of staff and processes, there is a huge backlog. This is the reason why even after the passport office website shows - Report received. Passport will be dispatched on <date> - the passport never gets dispatched on that date, not the date after, not even the date after that date...
Some of my acquaintances received their passports a month or so after the scheduled dispatch date.
However, some other people I know received their passports even before the dispatch date information was up on the website. No prizes for guessing how. Ha ha.

I'm contemplating this. I mean it's been 75 days since I've applied ( 20th April). Not sure whether RTI is a good option or just visit RPO and find out what's up.

It's been 75 days for me, and still shows "Police has completed verification process on 22/05/2012. Your passport will be dispatched after 'Clear' Police Verification Report is received at Regional Passport Office. You would receive an email/sms once the passport is dispatched."

I am not surprised. Stay put if you are in no hurry. Your passport will arrive eventually.

Visit the RPO first and try to get the reason for the delay. If you don't get a satisfactory reply or resolution, THEN file an RTI.

Will tryy to go to the RPO this week. Tired of waiting.

I had applied at Bangalore RPO
My verficiation also happened 10 days immediately after date of application

My current status says:
Police has completed verification process on 11/07/2012. Your passport will be dispatched after 'Clear' Police Verification Report is received at Regional Passport Office. You would receive an email/sms once the passport is dispatched.

Will probably go tomorrow. My application date is 20th april, and verification date is 22nd May. Just to give you perspecive.

My status is changed again to :

Passport application has been granted and Police Verification Report has been submitted. You would receive an email/sms once the passport is dispatched.

So your passport is granted. It should reach you in a months time.

Does it take one months time to get the passport in hand? after so many phases ( its almost 20 days now )

Status 1 above was a mistake as the logical progression is 2 then 3.

"Passport has been granted" means that someone has approved issue of passport to you. It then has to get printed, Checked for errors, then posted. It takes a month in most cases, it did in my case.
