PV on Sept 2 and travel on 20th. No way you are going to get it soon enough. And what about Visa's if you need them?

No, you can't convert it to Tatkal now.

What makes you feel that your verification report may be negative? Did the police man ask you for any bribe? In any case, if your documents are ok and there has been no case registered against you in that police station, they cannot send a negative report. But if the police person wants to haress you, they have enough tools.
For example, I and my colleague submitted our Passport renewal applications together on same date. Our PV also took place within a space of a week. The police man was known to me since I did not pay anything. But he asked for Rs. 1 k from my colleague and he paid only .5 k. To your amazement, my passport was renewed and delivered 2 months back. But my colleague's status still shows, 'Police report not yet recieved'. Upon enquiring, it came to our notice that Police had sent his report to the CID the next day of PV. But it never reached the CID office.
Everything is funny, as long as it's happening to someone else!!

In Ladakh I think the police report is usually fine, but the passport office in Srinagar or Jammu tends to say that something is missing so that you will have to go and pay them a small bribe. I know several people who have missed chances to go abroad because of this delay.

Police Verification Mandatory in Ahmedabad

I had recently applied for renewal of my passport after it expired a couple of months ago. It was last issued in Pune. However, since we had changed address in the last ten years and had moved to a new city where my spouse had joined a new central government job, I submitted my Identity certificate and a Standard Affidavit along with my application.

The Indian Passport website says that you do not have to go through police verification if you submit the Identity Certificate as a govt employee or a dependent family member of a govt employee. Even then I was told by the passport office that I would have to go through police verification process.

Subsequently, I received a call and was summonned to the station even though I had already received my passport. Me and my spouse went there and got the job done. They were polite and decent and did not ask for any money. They told us that this is a necessary part of the process and if you do not get this verification done now then for the next renewal of the passport you will not be issued the passport before police verification even if you apply through tatkal mode. It will be issued only after the police verification has been completed. So it is better to get this thing done on a timely basis.

Question How many days for Police Verification

Hi,

My wife needs a passport and we are not available at home on weekdays. I am wondering how many days after application will the police verification happen?

Is there a way that we can find out when the police personnel are going to come?

Thanks,
Harsha.
Cheers,
Sri Harsha.

You should be writing a letter to the concerned police authorities quoting the File Reference No, where you need to mention the days of availability and reason of non-availability at home during the week days.

The verification would be done on the days you would be available at home. Rest of the issues could be discussed at the time of application. Also please take acknowledgement on a second copy of application.

Passport police Verification - Gurgaon

Hi,

Could someone elaborate on the police verification procedure in Gurgaon for passport? I have submitted my application and there is no response yet.

What documents do I need for police verification? Will the passport application documents suffice?

Thanks

Thank you. I couldn't find the list of documents I need to have though.

Another point is, I've stayed in the US for some time in the past one year. Does that affect the police verification?

Thanks

Passport status says " Police verification is under review at Regional passport office. Passport will be granted once Police report is found clear"

Could you please tell me what this means? Has anyone had this status message before? It's been this way since the 2nd of May. Thanks.

Contact the police office in question and find out what's happening with your case. There is no real standard procedure. This is India!

Hi. Will the police be aware of what's up? The police report seemed fine from the police office end. It says it's at the RPO now.

Thanks

Status has been updated to

"Police has completed verification process on 22/05/2012. Your passport will be dispatched after 'Clear' Police Verification Report is received at Regional Passport Office. You would receive an email/sms once the passport is dispatched."

Again still no clue what this means . Could anyone shed light on this please?

Xenobia,

It just means that the police verification report has not reached the Regional Passport office.

Police folks sometimes takes very less days to send back the report. Some times the papers are piled up and sent once in a month.

So, your status is nothing but " Wait and Watch "

With Warm Regards
