Question Passport for my kids

Hi

I am a British Citizen (holding a British Passport) staying in India for over 20 years and also an Overseas Citizen of India. I got married to an Indian Citizen sometime back and now have 2 minor children who are holding Indian Passports. Being British Citizens by descent, my children are eligible for British Passports, therefore I was planning to apply for their British Passports as well. At present they are both in school.

My question is if they get they get their British Passports would they still be Indian Citizens and if not what procedures do I have to follow so that they can continue to stay in India and study here without any problems. Can anyone help?

India does not allow Dual citizenship.

My guess (usual IANAL stuff applies) is that your children are not British citizens, although they may be eligible to become so.

In theory, at least, if you apply for British passports for your children, they should renounce their Indian citizenship.

Dual citizenship is allowed by UK, but not by India.

Unfortunately your childern do need to go through process of becoming British Citizen, that does mean they have to give up their Indian Citizenship and than go through process of them becoming Overseas Citizen in India as Nike-H said, India do not allow dual citizenship.

Thanks for your inputs guys. I wish my kids could retain their indian nationality as well, but guess thats something they would have to sacrifice if they get their British Passports. At the moment we plan to stay in India until my kids finish their schooling (and maybe go abroad for further education) , so do you think it would be advisable to get their British Passports made at the moment?
