Post Passport Expiring

Hi,

I am a US Citizen and am planning to visit India soon. I have a Multiple-entry visa for India that expires in Dec, 2005. My US Passport expires in Feb 2006. Will I have problems visiting India, due to the fact that my passport will not be valid for more than 6 months beyond the date of my visa.

Please help.

Thanks.

i don't know but it's really easy to renew your passport in a rush. it costs a bit more but you might as well, just to eliminate any worry while travelling. perhaps you'll want to try extend your visa after being there for a while.

My passport will expire two weeks after the indian visa expiration date and it wasn't any issue in embassy, so

Your passport has to be valid for 6 months past the date of travel when you apply for a visa. Since you already have one, it isn't a problem.

The six-month thing is just a guideline. A passport is valid until it isn't.

Went to get a visa for a relative last year in the UK and his passport was valid for less than 6 months. So they just issued a visa for 3 or 4 months to match up with the validity of the visa.

As Skell said it is not a problem but if you want to put your mind at rest contact your nearest Indian embassy/consulate.

I never understood why the expiry dates on passports (and driving licenses) are taken so seriously. Does one cease being the person, when the passport expires?

Yes - if you don't get back to your country in time, you turn into a pumpkin.
