passport applied newly

can anyone tel me what this status exactly conveys?
i applied on 27th july 2012. and i don stay in my permanent address as i gave in application. how long it may take? so tat i can be at home when police comes home

Police Verification (PV) has been initiated and a PV request has been sent to SP Office, District mangalore. Your passport will be dispatched after Clear Police Verification Report is received at Regional Passport Office. You would receive an email/sms once the passport is dispatched.

Ideally you should contact SP Office, District Mangalore at the earliest, and contact the person responsible for Police Verification with a written application (notarized affidavit would be better) that currently you do not reside at your permanent address with the reason of non-staying there and you could be contacted at <current> location with reason of staying there. Hope, you have mentioned the current location in the form.

Then you would be required to do as advised by the Police office.
