Question Passport & Visa Renewal

I am a US citizen and I recently had to renew my passport. I had also gotten a 10-year visa to India back in 2004 which will expire in 2014.

Unfortunately, when I renewed my passport, they didn't transfer over the applicable visa onto my new passport.

I am planning to go to India later on this week. I am planning on taking both my old passport (with my current visa) and my new passport (without any visa), and then while in India, I will get my visa transferred to my new visa. Would that be enough or do I need to do something else to avoid being hassled over there?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Well as long as you have old passport with Valid indian visa you are good to go. You shouldnt have any problems. We do that with our children(US citizens) all the time. I will not worrry about even transferring the visa to the new passport unless you intend to make frequent trips due to the time and cost constraints. Good luck with your trip.

"They", being the US Authorities? They wouldn't and couldn't; you have to go the visa-issuing authority

I second VJ - we have expired passports with unexpired visas in them which we use all the time. Just be sure to bring both passports - the expired one (to show the visa) and the unexpired one (to show you have a valid passport). Other than the fact that our passport holder is getting a bit bulky (there are several of us), there is absolutely no problem with this.

Everyone including my neighbors report that. Only, real nervous compulsive types spend more money to the government unneccessarily. My neighbors said just listen to my wife because Bengalis know everything. I think its an ethnic conspiracy..
