The AFFRO is the guy with the Sai Baba haircut.
I was joking about the 'mistake' too! Your post has a sort of Monty Pythonesque, quality, and I can imagine the scene... "Mr Richie, what is the purpose of your application for a one-year visa?" "Not to buy any property." "Do you have any intention of conducting any business in India?" "Certainly. I will not buying property". "Your tour is entirely for the purpose of tourism?" "Entirely. And I have not even thought of buying property" ![]() Maybe not one of better flashes of creativity .... But it's late...And Don't Mention the War! Oh... that was Faulty Towers, not Python.

Na...basically, I said I will be travelling around India for 8 months and asked if I could have a 12 month as all I would need to do is leave and re enter (the 180 day rule) I stated I would comply with the 180 day rule on a 12 month visa. I didn't talk about property or working in India and they didn't ask. They just said you must leave India after 180 days and then you can go back in. What I mean is I didn't say I have the intention to buy when I asked. I said I would like to avoid renewing a visa after 6 months as to not waste travel time. They had no issues with it. I even said I would show bank statements to prove funds for travel but they didn't need that. |

First-rate result, and I only hope that more more people try and succeed.
As you might have said sometime back: If you don't ask... |

wow...thanks for posting the scan of your visa...i have to say - amazing !
if i hadn't actually seen it, i would have remained sceptical - but "respect" to richie4india. this is the first example of a 12 month tourist visa issued to a uk passport holder (not pio)issued by the high commission in london (or anywhere else) that i've ever come across. does that mean we can all have a go? once again - well bloody done ! |

Most of all the guy who signed the top of my application to authorise it was happy to do it. He was also very polite and when I called him to say I was at the PRO desk and that the guy said no. He said 'OK I'm coming down.' I just wish it was printed on there as usual though. Then it would be a real masterpiece! Glad I have it though! ![]() EDIT; When he called me in August as a follow up to my email he said OK as long as I hold a British Passport. |

All of that to one side, what do people think of the HCI in London decision to outsource all visa and consular services to one idependant agency?
It has not yet been outsourced, much to what many people think. Currently they have only stopped postal application and they only advise people to either come in person or use an agent that offers the service. Soon the agent will be the only option and there will be only ONE agent. They are doing this worldwide as travel to India increases and it is a decision that has come from the Central Government of India. Today (01/10/07) visa processing in the USA will be outsourced to 'Travisa Inc' on behalf of the Indian Embassy in New York and 4 Consulates over the USA. |

i'm sure i mentioned this on a similar post a couple of months ago, but here goes again...
the suspension of postal applications at hci london was a response to the postal strikes in uk...and a sensible idea as you don't want your passport and visa application sitting in a sorting office for a week or so. the idea that all visa applications will be channelled through an agent/agents at some point in the future is not something i've seen any hci london statement on. |

Outsourcing is going to happen and the postal application change has nothing to do with any postal stikes. A statement back in 2006 by the Indian Central Government confirmed their wish to outource worldwide. The HCI is looking for an agent http://www.hcilondon.net/PR-visa-passport.html here you will see the proposal. It started in the USA today! Visa applictions made from 1st October 2007 at any USA cosulate and the emabassy in New York by person/post will NOT be entertained. That for instance is stated on the Consulate of Chicago site! |
