Indian Embassy in Spain is since few weeks giving one year visa, multiple entry etc. Until now the only possibility for foreigners/tourists was the 6 month visa. The cost for one year visa is 80 Euro ( six months cost 50 Euro).

Anyone know if this is going to be extended to other European nationals?
A one-year visa would be ideal for my next trip.

Hi Crvlvr
Understand that conditions are the same as for six month visas. My passport is now in Indian Consulate in Madrid, so next week I' ll say you something else. |

Even if it is only for 180 day stay, I guess the benefit is that one will have some time to get things together before leaving for India for the full 180 days. In the past, I understand that the 180 days started from the day the visa was stamped.

The Indian embassy in Berne, Switzerland, has been issuing these visas for many years. They are limited to a maximum of 180 days per stay, but with them being multi-entry, you can of course just pop across the Nepali border or to Sri Lanka and come back immediately. Very handy indeed, I must say!
I don't think that the decision on whether these visas are available is based on nationality -- the Indian embassy in London refused to give me a one-year one, while the Berne embassy made no fuss. |

The only reason for the visa is the permission to get into the country for the period of validity of the visa, it means from today 6th July 2005 to 5th July 2006. It means I can stay there until the 5th July in only one or several periods. In the conditions of the application there are no mentions at all to 180 days of stay. Most probably is the same in all indian consulates.

All tourist visas issued by an Indian Emabssy/Consulate have a restriction of 180 days continuous stay in India irrespective of the length of validity of the visa. American citizens get a 10 year visa but the 180 day restriction applies to them as well. TOURIST = 180 days.
