Wondering
Quote:
I* was wondering if having an OCI status would give me the option to buy a one way ticket to India from the US. I am thinking of going to India in January 2010 and not returning till May-June 2011. Of course I can't buy a round trip ticket for such a long time. Round trips should be bought for 330-360 days based on airlines. So I was wondering 1. Buy a round trip and discard the return by not traveling. Then booking a round trip from India-US back to India. Can I do so with OCI status and not pay foreign fares, even if they have different fares for Indians and foreigners. Not sure about this 2. Changing the return portion to a later date if they would allow it and not too costly. Looking for current advice on an earlier thread.

Well, as air fares have no basis in reason, I'd just do a bunch of pricing research and go with that. When I last considered the same thing in mid-2008 the one-way was cheaper, though not by a lot. I think the different rates for Indians and non-Indians on Indian airlines has pretty much gone away, though I haven't checked lately.
As for the one-way from the US, I'd think that the OCI card would allay any concerns the airline may have. |

2. Only a few desi airlines might have a differential pricing for indians and non-indians. OCI does not make you eligible for lower pricing if any; on the contrary, it establishes your foreign national status. A PAN card is used by some to establish resident status for entries to monuments and other places with differential pricings. 3. Changing a date, that far in advance is rare; you are better off getting a one-off one-way fare from a consolidator specializing in such fares ![]()
