In recent years I've always had return tickets, but comments by others on the forum suggest that there is no problem with having a one-way ticket.
If questioned about it you can always say you are exiting India by land to Nepal. It's generally not a good idea to make up stories because if you're found out people may wonder what your motive is. I've never been asked to show my ticket out of India on arrival at Delhi airport.

I don't think you'll have any problem
I came to India 3 years ago with one way ticket
I departed to Nepal by land, and left the region with another one-way ticket I purchased later. Nobody asked or checked. (but it may be a random chance ?)

I've always only had a one-way ticket with no problems, too.
I've never been asked to prove my onward travel, but I always make sure I've got a couple of hundred quid on me to prove I've got funds in case anyone asks. That's probably over-cautious but I got asked at Bangkok airport once and had to show my credit card and some money to prove I wasn't coming to the country penniless.

I too have never been asked to show a ticket.
One tip when buying one way tickets, ask the travel agent for any special offer prices they have on return tickets. Last year my gran wanted a one way ticket and it was £50 cheaper to buy a return ticket (she did not use the return portion, so it was just like having a single) than to get a one way ticket. |
