OCI holders: Don't forget your old passports that have the India Visa stamp

Wanted to share this warning to all OCI holders - if you have an old expired passport that had the India OCI page, you must take your old expired passport with the OCI document. The Visa in your passport is the definitive document not the OCI document.

I had the bitter experience of not taking the old passport that had the OCI stamp - and had to reapply for a visitor's visa in the Indian consulate mid-way along my journey (added expense and time).

This is true only if you have NOT transferred the Visa to your current passport -- which has a fee attached and can be done at the Consulates.

You actually need both the stamped passport and the the OCI card. I had just presented my US passport with the "lifetime visa" stamp and they asked me for the card. They have always looked at both at immigration in Mumbai
